Your Path To Musical Expression

The word Karma is derived from the Sanskrit word Kri, meaning ‘to do’; all action is Karma. By doing work with purpose and as a science; and by knowing how to work, one can obtain the greatest results. This is the basis of our Music School.

Do you want to learn how to play guitar and be able to express yourself through music?

At Karma Music School, we can help you to achieve your music goals, to grow, and to excel with a positive mindset. Our approach combines over 30 years of music experience, with over two decades of experience training and teaching complex subject matter in industry and academia.

If you are genuinely interested in learning to play this incredible instrument and willing to put in the effort, discipline and practice required to progress your chops on the fretboard, then Karma Music School might be a good fit for you.

Our method for learning the guitar is similar to the concept of Jeet Kune Do in martial arts. We take a direct and hybrid approach by combining the most useful elements from different learning systems, using what works and casting off what doesn’t work for each individual student. Our goal is for students to be able to understand what they are doing on the fretboard so they can express the music within. We accomplish this by the following:

  1. Students build a foundation based on guitar interval training, a solid understanding of music theory, good fretting hand and picking hand technique, and excellence with timing and rhythm.

  2. Using a personalized and hybrid approach, students learn and apply varied concepts and systems to the guitar fretboard, to enable free navigation and the ability to play more intentionally.

  3. Students study the art of improvisation, musical performance, development of good guitar tone, and the expression of emotion through their instrument.

Our approach is applicable to any genre or style of music, and we help students to set and adjust SMART objectives throughout the course of their guitar journey. If you have the necessary motivation and our approach sounds like harmony to you, then we encourage you to schedule an initial consultation.

From this foundation, you’ll creatively explore melodies, chords, and lyrics as seeds for original compositions. Next, delve into musical storytelling through authentic lyric writing, narrative structure, and hook development. Learn strategies to overcome creative blocks and enhance your expression with dynamics and phrasing. Along the way, you’ll refine, rehearse, and build stage confidence as you prepare to perform your finished song live.
